SOUTHEND United midfielder Michael Timlin could be set for a shock return to action against Stockport County this weekend.

The 27-year-old had been fearing an extended spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

But a London-based surgeon has now confirmed he could soon be back in action, much to the relief of Timlin.

“The specialist said that the damage to my ankle was from a previous injury, so it was good news for me,” said Timlin.

“The initial scan showed quite a lot of damage and I was worried that I might have been out for quite a few weeks.

“But thankfully that’s not the case and I could be back in training later this week.

“I will see how that goes, but there’s a chance I could even be fit for the FA Cup game against Stockport on Saturday.”

Timlin had missed Blues’ last two matches with the injury he picked up during the 1-0 defeat at Morecambe a fortnight ago.

The injury was sustained following a mis-timed tackle from Shrimps’ defender Jordan Mustoe.

But Timlin could now be set for a return and will do battle with loan signing Marc Laird and Alex Woodyard for a place in the starting line-up against the Hatters at Roots Hall.
