Southend United manager Paul Sturrock: Keep the good run going

I’VE been really pleased with the way we have been performing in the last three or four games and we will be wanting to keep the run of good performances going at Torquay United tomorrow.

Games against them are normally very tight and I’m expecting that to be the case this weekend.

They’re having another good season and are currently just outside the play-off positions.

Having a settled side is very much key to their success and they’re capable of playing some really good football too.

There is certainly plenty to be wary of, including our former captain Craig Easton, who I’m sure will be doing a good job for them.

It’s great to see Easty back in the game after a difficult time last season and it will be a hard test for us tomorrow.

We will be going there in a positive frame of mind though after producing a good performance against Port Vale last time out.

The game was a very entertaining 0-0 draw and it was nice to get another clean sheet.

I think that’s five in our last eight games now and three in a row at home so things are progressing well in that area of the pitch.

It would be nice if we could chip in with a few more goals but we are starting to look much stronger and things have certainly settled down.

We have Britt Assombalonga, Tamika Mkandawire and Marc Laird in there on loan who I feel are all doing a good job.

But it’s too early to be talking to them about what will happen when their deals with us expire.

I’ve not had that conversation with any of them yet but certainly will do nearer the time. Talking of loan signings, next week sees the deadline shut for being able to bring players to the club on a temporary basis.

Being honest I can’t see much happening for us but it would be nice if we could get one or two of our squad members out to play the games I think they need.

That may also allow us to bring someone else in but, as things stand at the moment, I don’t think we will be making any new signings.
