OXFORD United boss Chris Wilder felt his side did not deserve to be beaten at Roots Hall on Saturday.

Blues substitute Ryan Leonard grabbed the only goal of the game five minutes from time.

And that left Wilder fuming at the final whistle.

““If anybody had been here and watched the game they would be amazed at the result and I have smashed the players in there,” said Wilder.

“If they expected me to come in and say how well they’ve played and how many chances they’ve created they’ve got another thing coming because the bottom line about playing a game of football is how you get over the finishing line which Southend have and we haven’t.

“You can’t afford to miss chances like Alfie Potter did in the first half, they don’t miss chances like that which is why they came out with all three points.

“We outplayed them in the first half and they came back into it in the second.

“But our keeper has had to make one save, have a few kicks out and pick the ball out the back of the net so losing here is hard to take.”
