SOUTHEND United have signed Matthew Lund on a month long loan deal from Stoke City.

The 22-year-old, who can also play in defence, will spend the next four weeks with Paul Sturrock's side.

And the Blues boss is delighted to have brought Lund to the football club.

“With the injury troubles that we have it was important we brought someone in and I'm pleased to have got Matthew,” said Sturrock.

“He's already played in League Two this season, including against us, and I'm sure that will help him settle in here.”

Lund has spent two lengthy spells on loan with Bristol Rovers, making 33 appearances and scoring four goals.

He has also spent time on loan with Oldham Athletic and Hereford United from Stoke who he joined in 2009 after emerging through Crewe Alexandra's youth system.

Lund will go straight in to Southend's squad for tomorrow's game with Northampton Town at Roots Hall.
