AIDY Boothroyd felt his Northampton Town side were not at their best against Southend United, but still deserved to win.

The Cobblers withstood long spells of pressure from Blues during the second half before Kelvin Langmead bagged a late winning goal.

But Boothroyd was certain Northampton deserved all three points.

“I thought overall we deserved it although I'm sure Paul Sturrock will probably feel his team could have won it as well,” said Boothroyd, whose side moved back in to the play-offs with the win.

"When you go down to 10 men, all of a sudden, your team seems to get extra energy from somewhere, and the team with 11 seem to think they're all right and drop down a gear.

“That's what happened here but Kelvin popped up at the end and he is as brave as a lion.

“That's why he's the captain, he's been brilliant and I'm lucky to have him."
