KEVAN Hurst is chasing victory against Leyton Orient tonight in a bid to right his Wembley wrongs.

The Southend United winger has mixed memories of visiting the world famous home of English football.

And the 27-year-old is keen to improve that record by helping Blues win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy this season.

“Things haven't always gone that well for me at Wembley so it would great to get back there and try and even things up a little bit,” said Hurst.

“I played in the final of the JPT with Scunthorpe in 2009 but we lost to Luton and then I missed the play-off final that same season because of injury.

“A year later Carlisle got to the final but I didn't play when they beaten by Southampton and they got there 12 months after that as well but I was on loan at Morecambe.

“So I'd love to now get there with Southend and have happy memories of playing there myself.”

But, having also experienced playing in the final of the JPT, Hurst is fully aware of the excitement it can bring to the town.

And he is certain the same would happen to Southend, if Paul Sturrock's team can work their way past Leyton Orient at Roots Hall tonight.

“Southend has a great fanbase so I'm sure plenty of fans would go and it would be a great day,” said Hurst.

“However, for that to happen we need them right behind us again tonight.

“They were quality in the first leg at Orient and if they can create that kind of buzz then I'm sure the lads will all respond to that.”

That includes Hurst who is now close to being fully fit again after being hit by a virus last week and not being 100 per cent right against Northampton Town on Saturday.

“I felt awful last Wednesday and Thursday but took some antibiotics and was OK to play,” said Hurst.

“I didn't feel great and I do still feel a bit ropey but by the time the game starts I'm sure I'll be 100 per cent fit.

“And if we get the result we want then I'm sure I won't be feeling at all ill any more!”
