Neil Harris - delighted to see Southend United reach Wembley

WE’RE ALL still buzzing about reaching the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the game at Wembley will be the best day of many people’s lives.

I’m lucky to have played there before with Millwall and it was an unbelievable occasion to have been involved in.

It’s something very special for players, their families and the fans and I’m delighted that the boys here are going to get the chance to sample what it’s like at the home of football.

It’s also something to look back on and really cherish once your career has ended because not many players can say they have played at Wembley.

I’m sure we will take tens of thousands of fans and that’s something that also excites me.

I went to Cardiff to cheer the team on when we played in the final of the LDV Vans Trophy as it was back then.

But Wembley will be even better than that and it was unbelievable night we had against Leyton Orient to see us get there.

There was a great atmosphere in the ground and some of the performances in our team were heroic.

I was particularly pleased for Barry Corr because he spent 18 months out injured before coming back this season and he got another very important goal against Orient.

Mark Phillips also did well to play after having an injection on his toe but all of the team dug in to get the result we all wanted.

However, despite the excitement, we would all swap playing at Wembley for promotion this season.

We therefore have to remain focused on the league because things can go one of two ways after a good cup result.

You can either fall by the wayside, like Bradford have done a little bit, or it can add extra momentum to your season.

The challenge for us is to make sure this works in our favour and that has to start with a positive result at Wycombe tomorrow.

WELCOME BACK BILEL

BILEL Mohsni has come back to the club and it really is like a new signing for us.

He gives the manager options because he can play in a few positions and if he’s fit and happy then he will be a great addition to the squad.

Things didn’t go too well for him on his return against Northampton Town last weekend as he was red carded after just 27 minutes, but it was a genuine error from him.

He was committed to going in and trying to win the ball but caught the player instead.

I think it was a sending off but Bilel could still have a big part to play for us this season.

HERO REEVES TAKING SOME STICK

BEN Reeves popped up with a late goal against Orient on Wednesday night and he again showed the quality he possesses.

However, he does get a lot of stick about his lack of height and he definitely needs to sort out that barnet of his!

Kevan Hurst’s fashion sense has also taken some stick this week and he wasn’t too happy when we decided to hang up quite high the leather jacket he had decided to wear!

FIFA SEE SENSE - AT LAST

GOAL-LINE technology will be used at the World Cup next year and it’s about time too.

FIFA have finally seen sense about this situation and it’s a no brainer of a decision for me.

I’m not saying England would have gone on to beat Germany at the last World Cup had Frank Lampard’s shot which was about half a yard over the line had been given.

But it did highlight the fact how stupid it was that the available technology was not being used.

RYAN'S MAKE UP MADE US LAUGH

RYAN Cresswell was in the Sky Sports studio for our game with Orient and we all had a good laugh at him when he came in the dressing room with all his make up on.

He probably shouldn’t be under a spotlight with that big bald head of his.

But thankfully his suspension has ended now so he can stop pretending to be Gary Neville!

Agree re Neil Harris. Totally professional at all times. Might not figure in the first team, or even squad sometimes but still conducts himself perfectly.
Goes into the hospitality boxes at matches to shake hands and have photos taken and does club community work as well. Reckon he could still find the back of the net if called upon too. My 10 year old son calls him "Sir Neil"!!

I look forward to reading your articles Neil as they are a genuine insight to life as a pro-footballer. Well done again fella!

I really didn't believe we would be looking forward to a trip to Wembley, but the lads selected did an awesome job of delivering the goods when it mattered.

Now however, you all need to be really grounded professionals and not let this go to your heads. You readily admit to getting a real buzz out of this, but the exception here is that you have been there before & it won't be new to you.

I hope we can count on you to give the lads a good grounding on this, so that their minds are on the next game and not playing under the Wembley Arch... there's plenty of time for that & an awful lot of matches to potentially lose through lack of focus.

There's nothing like stating the obvious of course... I am good at that, but I do genuinely wish the whole squad the best of luck in the remaining games of this season. Make us proud!
