JOHN White feels Southend United should remain positive after their narrow midweek defeat to Yeovil Town in the Capital One Cup.

Blues were beaten 1-0 by the Championship newcomers on Tuesday night.

But White was encouraged by the determined display and still feels there is more to come from Phil Brown’s team.

“I thought we battled hard against Yeovil and could even have taken it to extra time with the chances we had at the end there,” said the Shrimpers skipper.

“The keeper pulled off a couple of good saves but I certainly thought we rattled Yeovil and made them work very hard for the win which is encouraging from our point of view.”

Southend now return to league action when they travel to Hartlepool United this weekend.

And White is expecting another tough test.

“Hartlepool is a horrible, nasty place to go and play and they’re a really hard-working side,” said the right-back.

“We will have to battle against them but hopefully we can do well enough to get the three points.

“We have a little period now of just league games and we want to get as many wins as we can during that time.”
