SOUTHEND United skipper John White feels his side are now firing on all cylinders, just in time to step up their pursuit of promotion.

The Shrimpers’ 2-1 win at Cheltenham Town on Saturday was their third in succession.

And White now wants to continue that form and take it in to the play-offs.

“We’re back to our best now, we’re firing on all cylinders again and it’s come at the perfect time,” said the defender.

“This is the business end of the season, every game is extremely important and we want to keep this run going and finish as high up the table as we can.

“It’s all about having that momentum and if we’re in the play-offs then that could be crucial.”

Blues, who had gone 13 games without a victory before the recent winning run, are now sixth in the League Two standings and will be wanting to keep their winning run going when they host AFC Wimbledon at Roots Hall on Saturday.

However, White is expecting the Dons to come and make life hard for the Shrimpers.

“I’m sure Wimbledon will look to stodge things up a bit to try and frustrate us but we’ll be ready for that,” said the 27-year-old.

“We’re looking very solid at the back and the young lads – John Egan and Jakub Sokolik – are both doing very well for us.

“It was disappointing to concede at the weekend but we still got the three points and we’ve conceded once in five games so we can’t complain too much.”

And White has also been boosted by the form of his team-mates at the other end of the field.

“Further forward, we have goals in the team and we’ve had all four of our strikers scoring in the last three games so we’re dangerous going forward.

“There’s plenty to be feeling positive about and Saturday’s game can’t come soon enough to be honest.”
