SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown wants to get fans off their seats against Stevenage at Roots Hall tomorrow.

The Shrimpers are chasing their second successive league victory after winning at Accrington Stanley on the opening day of the season.

And Brown wants to pick up the three points in entertaining fashion.

“Home form is always important and I also want us to be picking up points by playing good football at the same time,” said the Blues boss.

“I want to be getting the supporters off their seats and make a good atmosphere in the ground.

“It’s up to us to make that happen and starting games well will be key for us at Roots Hall.

“Teams will come here to slow the game down and frustrate us, but if we get the first goal then they will have to come at us a bit more.

“That will then leave us more space which will hopefully be able to exploit.”

Brown hopes that will be the case against Stevenage this weekend and he has several tough decisions to make.

The Shrimpers boss opted to make seven changes to his starting line-up for Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup clash against Walsall.

And Brown must now decide whether or not the likes of Mads Ibenfeldt, Jack Payne and Lee Barnard have done enough to stay in the side.

“I was delighted with some of the performances against Walsall and I have one or two headaches when it comes to picking the team for tomorrow,” said Brown.

“It’s the art of management though and it’s the right kind of problems for this stage of the season.”

However, one player who is unlikely to figure is midfielder Will Atkinson.

The former Bradford City man is still struggling with an eye injury.

And he looks set to miss out this weekend.

“Will’s been to see an optician now and he’s having a problem with the retina inside the eye,” confirmed Brown.

“His sight is still blurred and his pupil is swollen too so to play him tomorrow would be a huge risk.

“We’ve been advised he needs a week off from training so that’s ruled him out.”

But winger David Worrall is fit for selection after shaking off a slight knee injury he sustained against Walsall.
