JEROME Binnom-Williams has extended his loan spell at Southend United until January.

The left-back has been in stunning form since signing from Crystal Palace.

And Blues boss Phil Brown has moved quickly, ahead of tomorrow’s clash home clash with Morecambe, to keep the 19-year-old at Roots Hall until the New Year.

“The way Jerome has been playing it’s a complete no brainer to extend his loan spell until January and I’m delighted it’s been sorted out,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“I’ve been on the phone to Neil Warnock (Crystal Palace manager) and he’s delighted with how Jerome has been doing and the opportunities he’s been given.

“There were a couple of other League Two clubs trying to get him to go to them but Palace are happy with him being here and Jerome is happy here too so it was great to get it done.”

Binnom-Williams came to the club after Blues’ first choice left-back Ben Coker sustained a nasty elbow injury in the 1-1 draw with Oxford United at the start of September.

Since then, Blues have won all four matches with Binnom-Williams in the team.

And Brown joked that the defender must be finding it easy.

“Jerome is probably wondering what the fuss is all about and that this football lark is easy,” said the 55-year-old.

“He’s won four out of four and we’ve had three clean sheets in that time too.

“To be fair he works hard on his game on the training ground and he’s been a delight to work with.

“He’s had a problem off the field we won’t go in to but he’s fitted in superbly well.

“He always seems to have a smile on his face and Ben Coker must be lying back on the treatment table wondering what he will have to do to get back in to the team.”
