SHAQ Coulthirst is out to fire Southend United to their first ever league victory against Morecambe tomorrow.

Blues have failed to see off the Shrimps in the eight previous league meetings between the two teams.

But Coulthirst, who bagged the only goal of the game against Shrewsbury Town last Saturday, is desperate to fire the Shrimpers to another victory at Roots Hall.

“We’ve got a good team here and we think we can go out and beat anyone at the moment,” said the 20-year-old who is on a season long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

“For myself personally I was happy to get back on the score-sheet against Shrewsbury last weekend and hopefully I can do the same tomorrow to help us beat Morecambe for the first time as well.

Coulthirst has now scored twice for Blues so far this season.

And he feels ready to produce his best form having fully adjusted to his new surroundings.

“I think I’ve been settling in so far and I’m ready to push on now,” said Coulthirst.

“I’ve been impressed by the togetherness there is in the team here and the manager is really good too.

“I obviously want to stay in his side but I know I have to score goals to make that happen so that’s exactly what I hope to do.

“But it’s getting the results that matters the most and we need to keep the good run we’re on going.

“The manager also said once we got the goals our performances deserved we would start to pick up more points and that’s exactly how it’s proved to be.”

Coulthirst is also keen to shine on a more consistent basis in order to impress his parent club, Tottenham Hotspur.

And his long term goal is to work his way in to the first team at White Hart Lane.

“My main target is to play for Tottenham but I’m delighted to be with Southend and it’s excellent for my development,” said Coulthirst.

“It’s much better playing in the league than in the under 21s and I’m really pleased to be here for the whole season.”
