BARRY Corr insists he is fit and ready to get back among the goals for Southend United.

The striker missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Morecambe with a slight knee injury.

But Corr is expected to be back in full training today and hopes to be able to take on Luton Town this weekend.

“I did a bit of work yesterday and it felt fine so hopefully I’ll be back in full training today and available for the game at Luton on Saturday,” said the 29-year-old.

“I’d been having a bit of pain for a month or so in my knee so I went to have an MRI scan on it.

“Thankfully it was nothing too serious and the injection should do the trick but I just wanted to get on top of it now because it got worse.

“I’ve played through knee pain before and ended up being out for some quite time.

“That’s not the case this time though and I’m looking forward to getting back out there again.

“I’m also still confident in my ability to get goals and I want to start getting a few more of them again.”

Corr has hit the back of the net just once so far this season, heading home from close range against Portsmouth in mid-September.

Injuries have stopped the Irishman starting again since then.

But he is keen to use the enforced break to his advantage.

“I’m hoping that missing the matches will have refreshed me and I also learnt more about the team when I was watching on from the stands,” said Corr.

“You get a different perspective on things and hopefully that can help me when I’m playing again.

“I’m also aware of some bad habits that I need to stop doing but it’s a big game Saturday which I’m sure will be played in front of a big crowd so of course I want to be involved.”

Corr will be battling with Myles Weston and Shaq Coulthirst for a place in the starting line-up against the Hatters.

The duo were unable to hit the back of the net against Morecambe at the weekend and Blues have netted just once in their last two games.

But Corr feels that most of the Shrimpers’ chances are currently falling to their wingers.

“If you look at our play then the central striker doesn’t really get too many chances to score, it’s the wide men who do,” said the forward.

“The striker often has his back to goal which I’m more than willing to do.

“However, the goal against Portsmouth got my season going. I seem to have been falling apart since then with neck and knee injuries.

“But I’m fit again now and I want to build on that goal.”
