BARRY Corr will become just the 19th player to have ever scored 50 goals for Southend United if he hits the back of the net at Mansfield Town tomorrow.

The Irishman has bagged 49 goals in 154 games for Blues since signing in the summer of 2010.

And, with the Shrimpers currently struggling in front of goal, boss Phil Brown would love the striker to reach the landmark at Field Mill this weekend.

“Barry responded to being brought back in to the starting line-up against Bury last weekend, getting a goal and it would be nice if he could get another one tomorrow,” said Brown.

“It would be nice if he could go on a run as well and if two or three of them could.

“We could definitely start to comfortably win then.”

Ninth placed Blues head in to tomorrow’s match at Mansfield without a win in five games.

The Shrimpers have scored just twice during that disappointing spell and have now netted just 14 goals in 15 league outings this term.

But Brown remains confident of turning around his team’s fortunes in front of goal.

“Eventually the goals will come for us,” said Brown.

“A lot of our strikers are suffering because it’s not going their way at the moment but it’s all about luck as well.

“You get that by working hard but I’m confident Barry Corr, Lee Barnard, Shaq Coulthirst, Myles Weston and Jack Payne can all get chances and can start to put them away.

“However, for that to happen, Brown feels the forwards must have faith in their own ability.

“When strikers are struggling to score you work on the training ground but a lot of the time it’s about what’s going on between their ears,” said Brown.

“When a striker walks out feeling confident he has a chance of scoring, especially for us because we are creating chances.

“But it’s about belief and getting in to the right places to score which is what we need to see tomorrow.”

Mansfield are currently 17th and have not won in six games.
