LEE Barnard is not sure whether or not he will return to Southend United when his month long loan spell at Stevenage comes to an end.

The 30-year-old striker has three weeks left on his deal at Broadhall Way.

And he does not know if he will be heading back to Roots Hall at that stage.

“It’s out of my hands what’s going to happen so all I’m focusing on is the games I have coming up and trying to do well in them,” said Barnard.

“It’s great to be playing games and it was certainly nice to score on my debut against Tranmere last weekend.

“I’m now looking forward to the FA Cup game with have against Maidstone this weekend and I’m not really thinking about anything else at the moment.

“I want to do well for Stevenage while I’m here and then we’ll see what will happen after that.”

Barnard had initially been short of chances in the Southend side this season.

He was on the bench for 14 of the first 15 games before working his way in to the team.

But, after making two starts in three games, Barnard discovered he was being sent to Stevenage.

And he admitted the switch came as something of a surprise.

“The manager rang me on Thursday night to tell me he was sending me to Stevenage and did come out of the blue,” said Barnard.

“I knew they had been interested in me earlier on in the season but at that stage the manager wanted me to stay and told me I was going to get a chance.

“Things change quickly all the time in football though but I’m enjoying it here and hopefully I can score a few more goals for Stevenage and help them get some good results too.”
