CHESTER winger Craig Mahon celebrated the best weekend of his life by scoring the winner in the Conference club’s 2-1 win at League Two Southend United.

Mahon fired home the game’s decisive goal six minutes in to the second half.

And his fine strike came just 24 hours after his partner had given birth to twin boys.

“I had twin boys on Friday afternoon and now I’ve scored the winner at Southend so this is the best weekend of my life,” said the 25-year-old.

“I always said that if anything went wrong or wasn’t right then I would’ve stayed at the hospital with my family.

“But my missus said look you don’t many chances to play in the FA Cup, we’ll have the kids for the rest of our lives so go there and express yourself.

“I’m glad she said that because I got the winning goal and now we’re through to the next round.”

Mahon’s fine individual effort came after Southend’s Barry Corr had earlier cancelled out Ben Heneghan’s opener for the visitors.

And Irishman Mahon felt Chester’s win was fully deserved.

“It was a great team performance from us,” said the winger.

“The lads put their heart and soul in to it and we did what we needed to do.

“We definitely deserved the win.”
