SOUTHEND United winger David Worrall believes he is in the best form of his career after being named the League Two player of the month for November.

Worrall has scored four goals in his seven games.

And the 24-year-old feels it is down to work done behind the scenes at the Shrimpers which has finally allowed him to play pain free.

“In the last couple of the years I’ve always being playing with injuries, especially with my groins, but that isn’t the case with Southend,” said Worrall.

“Lots of work is done here in training, the weights side of things in the gym is taken very seriously and I think I’m certainly getting the benefits of that.

“I would say I’m in my best ever form at the moment and I want to make sure that continues.”

Worrall’s fine displays during November, which included three goals and two assists, also caught the eye of the panel who voted him League Two player of the month.

But he was surprised to be announced as the winner.

“I knew I was on the short-list but I really didn’t think I would win if I’m honest,” said Worrall.

“It was a nice surprise and I’m buzzing about it.”

Worrall now wants to build on the form and help the Shrimpers, who have won their last four league games, work their way up the League Two table.

And he believes Phil Brown’s side have what it takes to reach the top of the standings.

“We want to keep the good run going and reach the top of the table,” said Worrall.

“We have the players and we certainly have the coaching set-up too.

“I never thought I would be learning this much about the game when I was 24 but that’s certainly been the case since I came to Southend.”

Worrall joined the Shrimpers from Rotherham United during the summer and believes he also benefitted moving leaving the north of the country, despite missing his dog!

“I think moving from Manchester and coming to the south of the country has really made me grow up,” said Worrall.

“I know what I have to do and my confidence is high now too.

“I’ve settled in here well even though I had to live my dog behind who I really miss.

“I did bring my goldfish down though but they probably have London accents now!”

WHAT THE PANEL SAID

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman: “Worrall’s goals have been vital in Southend’s resurgent November form.

“Scoring winners against Mansfield and Hartlepool meant the Shrimpers could get over their poor October form to leave them looking forward to the Christmas fixtures.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery: “Worrall had a brilliant November, leading Southend to four wins from four in Sky Bet League Two.

“Worrall’s role on the right wing usually relies on him to create chances but his three-goal return was a huge bonus for the Shrimpers.

“Phil Brown has established a 4-5-1 formation at Southend which provides good service to his striker.”
