GOALS from Will Atkinson, Barry Corr and Jack Bridge helped Southend United triumph 3-1 at Charlton Athletic in a behind closed doors friendly today.
The match also saw midfielder Ryan Leonard play 45 minutes on his return from a groin injury.
And manager Phil Brown was delighted to have put his players through their paces.
“After not having a game at the weekend I think the players needed this run out and it went well,” said Brown.
“Most of the lads got at least 45 minutes and it was good for them to get out there and blow away a few cobwebs.
“I was pleased with the performance and it was great to see Ryan Leonard back out there too.
“Kevan Hurst played too and Jerome Binnom-Williams played for an hour because I felt he needed those minutes.
“Adam Thompson played the full 90 to keep him ticking over as he’s suspended this weekend and it was a really good exercise for us.”
However, Blues skipper John White did not feature in the game after suffering an illness.
