SOUTHEND United’s Jerome Binnom-Williams hopes to celebrate extending his loan spell with the Shrimpers by securing another memorable victory at Portsmouth this weekend.

Binnom-Williams, who is now with Blues from Crystal Palace until the end of the season, made his Football League debut in a 2-0 win against the Hampshire side at Roots Hall in September.

And the 19-year-old is seeking more of the same when the two teams meet at Fratton Park tomorrow.

“My debut was Portsmouth at home was a memorable game, winning 2-0 and we want to go and do the same at their place now,” said Binnom-Williams.

“They were a strong, physical team when we played them before and they will have a big crowd cheering them on too.

“But if we can keep our cool and stay together then we can definitely get the three points against them again.

“That would certainly be the best way to celebrate extending my loan spell here.”

Blues head in to the game sitting sixth in the League Two table and have been beaten just once in their previous 12 league games.

Last time out they triumphed 3-2 at Oxford United in a game which saw Binnom-Williams line up at centre-back for just the second time in his career.

However, the youngster – who had previously played at left-back – is enjoying his new role in the back four.

“It’s the first time I’ve played there but it’s been a good experience playing in another position,” said Binnom-Williams.

“I had a little conversation about it with the manager just said I was happy to do it and felt comfortable moving to the middle.

“I’m a big lad and I just have to kick it and head it in there, there can be no messing around.”

Binnom-Williams faces competition from Luke Prosser and the fit again Adam Barrett this weekend.

But he is desperate to get the nod after agreeing to stay with the Shrimpers until the end of the season.

“I’ve extended my loan and I was happy to do it too,” said Binnom-Williams.

“I’m enjoying myself here and it will be good to get some more game time. It’s much better playing league football rather than in the under 21s and I’m learning from the manager and the staff who are all really good.

“I also really do think this team is capable of winning promotion this season and I want to play a part in helping that happen”.

And Binnom-Williams is also eager to impress his parent club, Crystal Palace.

“My contract is up at the end of the season so it’s a big few months for me,” said the defender, who has been with the Eagles for the past six years.

“I want to well to help Southend and I want to impress Palace’s new manager Alan Pardew at the same time.”
