DAVID Worrall has revealed Southend United’s players have held talks among themselves in order to get their season back on track.

The fifth placed Shrimpers have slipped five points behind the automatic promotion places after suffering two successive defeats.

But Worrall insists Blues are still capable of securing a top three finish.

“We’ve had a good couple of days talking about what went wrong at Stevenage and how we can put things right again,” said the 24-year-old winger.

“Saturday was frustrating because we should’ve won and personally I think we should’ve won 3-1 or 4-1.

“However, the penalty got Stevenage back in to the game and gave them a bit of momentum too.

“It was disappointing after that but we had a really good training session yesterday.

“Everyone looked sharp and we’re all fired up to get back to winning ways against Carlisle this weekend and we’re all still confident we can finish in the top three.”

Worrall is eager to help that happen and was buoyed by his own display at the weekend.

The hard-working winger, who had not been in the starting line-up for three games after suffering an illness, made both of Blues’ goals on his return to the team at Broadhall Way.

And Worrall is desperate to maintain his good form and his place in the side.

“I really wasn’t expecting to start if I’m honest but I’m obviously glad I did and it was pleasing to help the lads get their goals,” said the winger.

“We only really found the team out just before the game but hopefully I did enough to be able to stay in the side and we can get a good run going again.”

Worrall is also keen to pick up the points needed for promotion to make it a double celebration this summer when he will become a father for the first time.

Worrall’s partner is due to give birth to a baby boy in August.

But the winger is still working on the baby being born close to where he now lives.

“We’ve known for a little while but can we’ve only just been able to tell everyone about it and we’ve only just found out it’s a boy as well,” said Worrall.

“It’s really exciting but I’m still trying to work on it being an Essex baby.

“My other half isn’t so sure but she needs to make sure it’s born before the start of the season so I don’t miss any matches when hopefully we will be playing in League One.”
