SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown felt Saturday’s postponement at Bury could eventually work in his side’s favour.

Blues were missing Myles Weston, Kevan Hurst, Luke Prosser and David Worrall for the weekend’s clash at Gigg Lane.

And they could all be back in contention when the Shrimpers head back to Bury later on in the season.

“I’m disappointed for the fans because they spend their lives supporting this football club but I hope they understand what I mean by saying this postponement could be a good call for us because we had four players out this time,” said Brown.

“Myles Weston was on international duty so he will be back when we next come here again and Kevan Hurst should be fit by then too.

“Luke Prosser will be available and so will David Worrall who hasn’t trained all week for us so this is probably a better end product for us than for Bury.”

The Shrimpers had more than 300 fans in attendance at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

And Brown was full of sympathy for the supporters.

“As a whole I’m disappointed for the fans,” said the 55-year-old.

“They spend their lives supporting this football club and it’s an awful long way for them to come.

“We went over to them at the end, some of them said they left at 7am, others said they came up last night and one guy said he came from Portsmouth to watch it. “
