SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown described Daniel Bentley as phenomenal after seeing him equal a club record in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Tranmere Rovers at Roots Hall.

Bentley’s clean sheet was his 10th in a row at home and matched Blues’ best ever run set by the legendary Mervyn Cawston during the 1980/81 season.

And Brown was full of praise for Bentley’s consistency between the sticks.

“Ten clean sheets on the bounce is just phenomenal,” said the Blues boss.

“We’ve put the name fortress Roots Hall up in the dressing room and it’s exactly that at the moment.

“You have to play well to beat us or even get a goal here because Dan’s been impeccable all season apart from one slight mistake.

“But one error in a season means it’s been a great year for him and the longer we can keep hold of him the better.”
