SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown insists he has a real striking dilemma for Saturday’s clash at Exeter City.

Blues’ top scorer Barry Corr dropped to the bench for Tuesday night’s 2-0 win against Newport County after having to return home to Ireland for a family problem on the eve of the game.

But he is now back in full swing and Brown is now mulling over whether or not to recall him in place of either Joe Pigott or Jake Cassidy.

“I’ve got a real headache this weekend when it comes to picking the front two but it’s a quality headache for me,” said Brown.

“I count myself very lucky to have three top class strikers to pick from and behind them we have Lee Barnard also pushing for selection so I’m in a very fortunate position.

“And it’s something I’m going to have to think long and hard about.”

Corr has scored nine goals in his last 11 games before dropping out of the starting line-up against Newport.

The Irishman returned to Southend late on Monday night and did not feel ready to line up in attack.

“I spoke to Barry about the situation and he was very unselfish about it all,” said Brown.

“Barry really has this club at heart and said his head space wasn’t quite right.

“He said he wasn’t 100 per cent but I did still toy with the idea of starting him due to the form he’s been in.

“But I eventually put him on the bench and I thought he could make an impact that way.

“Joe Pigott has found it hard doing that just recently but Barry can do it well and he was about to come on before John White got injured and we had to bring on Jerome Binnom-Williams instead.”

White suffered a hip flexor injury 11 minutes from time against Newport.

And the right back is now doubtful for Saturday’s game with the Grecians.

“John has a hip flexor and is a doubt for Exeter at the moment,” confirmed Brown.

“We may well have to look at bringing Ryan Leonard in to play there or maybe even Jerome.”
