SOUTHEND United striker Barry Corr is to offer up the Shrimpers’ penalty taking responsibilities ahead of Saturday’s play-off final with Wycombe Wanderers.

Corr fired a dramatic injury-time spot-kick against the crossbar in the enthralling semi-final success against Stevenage.

And, having now missed his last two efforts from the spot, Corr is to ask his team-mates if they are keen to step forward.

“I think after you’ve missed two in a row the right thing to do is to talk to your team-mates and see if anyone wants to take the penalties so that’s what I will be doing,” said Corr, 30.

“If nobody else wants to take them then I will be more than happy to continue because I’ll always be prepared to put myself forward to take the penalties.

“But when you do that you run the risk of missing and it was a horrible, horrible moment when I missed the one last Thursday.”

Corr’s failed attempt from the spot came with the score locked level at 1-1.

And, despite his anguish, the striker was lifted by hearing the Shrimpers supporters chanting his name before extra time got underway.

“It was a great to hear the fans chanting my name after what happened and it did definitely lift me for the extra time,” said Corr.

“I just remember telling the lads we can’t lose this now and thankfully we didn’t so we made it through to the final.

“Wycombe are a very good team and we’re in for a tough test but we’re confident because of how well we’ve been playing lately.

“And it would also be great if we could win at Wembley for our fans because they’ve been brilliant for us again all season.”
