SOUTHEND United fans are leaving the town in droves to cheer their team on in the League Two play-off final at Wembley this evening.

Blues take on Wycombe Wanderers at the home of English football for the right to play in League One next season, and supporters have been heading to the famous ground all day, despite the match not kicking-off until 5:30pm.

Whether fans are heading to the ground on the M25 and M1, travelling by train with service operator C2C putting on thousands of extra seats to help supporters, or flying from overseas (with fans from Hong Kong and Australia making the trip) one thing is certain.

As the afternoon comes to a close, there will be around 20,000 Shrimpers marching up Wembley Way, hoping to watch their heroes join Burton Albion, Shrewsbury Town and Bury in League One next term.

Swimmer Mark Foster tweeted his support of the team. He said, from his @MarkFosterSwim account:

@SUFCRootsHall have the best day... Give it all you've got and make Southend proud... #comeonyoushrimpers #div1herewecome
