SOUTHEND United’s triumphant play-off winning squad will be parading their winning trophy through the town tomorrow (Monday).

The club said there would be an open top bus parade around Southend tomorrow to celebrate the Blues' promotion into League One.

Starting off at 12.30pm, the bus – which will be carrying the first team squad, staff and the trophy – will make its way down Victoria Avenue before turning into London Road.

The bus will turn down Chalkwell Avenue before heading down to the seafront and going along Western Esplanade at around 1pm.

More than 20,000 Blues fans roared their team on at Wembley in Saturday’s final which Phil Brown’s side won 7-6 on penalties against Wycombe Wanderers.

And the club’s chief executive Steve Kavanagh now wants the fans to enjoy another memorable afternoon.

“I think what happened at Wembley and the manner of the victory is still sinking in but it would be great to have another day of real celebration together,” said Kavanagh.

“Our supporters have been fantastic all season and they certainly were at Wembley so we want to share the success with them again by doing this open top bus parade.

“I know it’s something the club have done before and hopefully the fans will come out in big numbers once again.

“What we achieved on Saturday night was something we have been working very hard on for quite some time so I think it’s only right we celebrate now.”

The Shrimpers were just 20 seconds away from losing against Wycombe at the weekend.

But Joe Pigott fired home an injury time equaliser before goalkeeper Daniel Bentley saved two Wanderers’ penalty to help the Shrimpers come out on top.

The full route of the tour has yet to be confirmed but the bus will be along the sea-front at 1pm.
