EIGHT of Southend United’s promotion heroes are to be offered new contracts by the club, Echosport can reveal.

John White, Adam Thompson, Luke Prosser, David Worrall, Michael Timlin, Barry Corr, Will Atkinson and Gary Deegan are all to be tabled offers.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown is keen for them all to stay.

“With everything that’s been going on just recently we haven’ t had much time for contract talks but under the guidelines we have the players know by today what’s happening and we will be offering new terms to quite a few of them,” confirmed Brown.

“Luke Prosser had a year’s option on his contract we’ve decided to activate and I’m pleased about that because there was a bit of interest in him from a couple of clubs in League Two.

“John White and David Worrall have options as well we will activate but we will be offering them longer deals on top of that as a reward for how well they have been playing.”

Brown also revealed he had offered two year contracts to both Corr and Timlin who he described as massive players for the clubs.

And the 55-year-old will also have discussions with both Atkinson and Deegan, along with centre-back Thompson who has been out of action since April with the dislocated shoulder he suffered in the 2-0 win against Mansfield Town.

“Thommo’s been offered terms with a relative clause into where he’s at fitness, injury wise and division wise,” said Brown.

“It’s fairly complex due to the severity and timing of the dislocation but the chairman has stood by his word with him.”

Brown is currently on holiday in Spain but will meet with chairman Ron Martin on his return before he also speaks to experienced defender Adam Barrett and goalkeeper Paul Smith.

“It’s a bit more complicated where both Adam and Paul are concerned,” said Brown.

“I’ve spoken to them both briefly but I will talk to them in more depth when I get back home before making any further comment.”

Brown’s own contract is also up for renewal but he is again stressed he fully expects to be staying with the Shrimpers.
