SOUTHEND United legend Adam Barrett could yet be hanging his boots up before the start of next season.

But the popular defender handed the ones he wore to in Saturday’s League Two play-off final at Wembley to 11-year-old Shrimpers fan Joshua Blackburn who was watching the clash against Wycombe Wanderers with his father Neil.

“It was absolutely fantastic that Adam gave his boots to Joshua and it will always be something to remember the day by,” said Neil, who lives in Basildon.

“We’re going to get them framed and hopefully we will be able to meet up with Adam to get them signed as well.”

Neil added that Joshua had originally asked Barrett for his shirt but the defender said he was unable to give that way before passing the youngster his boots.

And Neil said it was the perfect way to end an unforgettable day.

“Everyone was going mad and they were all kissing Adam when he came over towards where we were,” said Neil.

“Getting the boots rounded everything off nicely and Joshua is really into his football so he loved it too.

“He actually plays for Barnet but this day will always be a great one for us to look back on.”
