SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has met with two of his main transfer targets.

Brown was not willing to publicly name who he was talking to.

But Echosport understands the Shrimpers chief is currently talking to a striker and an attacking midfielder.

“I met with two players yesterday who I would very much like to bring to the football club and I thought the talks went well too,” said Brown.

“I put forward where we saw ourselves going and what we wanted to achieve and I think they definitely had their heads turned by what was said.

“Three or four clubs are interested in signing them both so we find ourselves in a queue but we will be doing our best to sign both because I’m sure they would do well for us.”

Both of the players are understood to have experience of playing higher than League Two.

But Brown knows he could well have to remain patient in his pursuit of the players.

“Contracts don’t run out until the end of June so sometimes players won’t sign until that time,” said the 56-year-old.

“Whether or not that’s going to happen here I’m not sure but it’s good that we’ve been able to talk to them.”

Brown is also planning further signings but is still waiting to see if Adam Thompson, Michael Timlin, Will Atkinson and Gary Deegan will agree new contracts with the club.

“The number of players we need to sign is obviously going to depend on what happens with the four players,” said Brown.

“The good news is that they have all expressed a big desire to stay and hopefully we can get things sorted with them all in the next couple of weeks.”
