SOUTHEND United could be set for a £250,000 windfall in a Sky Bet Transfer Fund competition.

Ten football supporters were randomly picked out from more than 100,000 Sky Bet customers to be in with a chance of winning the prize for their club.

And among those chosen was Shrimpers fan Richard Milne, from Aberdeen, who hopes to boost Phil Brown’s spending power this summer.

“I’m really excited about this,” said Milne, who will also pick up £5,000 himself if he wins.

“When I first entered I never thought anything like this would happen to me.

“With Southend being promoted to League One last year it would be great to strengthen the team again so they can push on again next season.

“And, if I won the £5,000 prize, I would like to take my wife away on holiday.”

The winner will be drawn out at random on Friday, from midday, at the Sky Sports Studios.

The draw will be hosted by top Sky Sports News HQ presenters Jim White and Natalie Sawyer.

Fans entered the £250,000 Transfer Fund competition by linking their Sky Bet account to their favourite Football League club. For every £1 bet they generated one transfer fund token towards the draw.

The winning club will also be able to spend the £250,000 on players’ wages.
