SOUTHEND United’s latest talented young shot-stopper Harry Seaden has been called up to an England under-15 training camp.

The FitzWimarc School pupil will spend three days at Loughborough University with the best young goalkeepers in his age group next month.

But his father John, who himself played for the Shrimpers during the mid 1980s, revealed he would be cutting short a family holiday in order for Harry to be able to attend.

“It’s fantastic that Harry’s been invited along to the England camp but we’re now looking up flights to try and come back from our holiday in Alicante early,” said John.

“We’re going away with friends but Harry and I will now be flying back after six days so that he can go along to train and we’re all really proud of what he’s achieved.”

Harry’s success is also made even more remarkable by the fact he has only been playing in goal for the past three years.

But John insisted the 14-year-old had always enjoyed lining up between the sticks.

“Harry liked diving around from a very young age and went in goal a bit but he only really concentrated on playing as a goalkeeper when he was 11,” said John.

“He played for Rayleigh Boys and then went to Hullbridge before playing in a trial game with Southend so it’s all happened quite quickly for him.”

Harry will now be looking to follow in the footsteps of the Shrimpers highly-rated shot-stoppers Daniel Bentley and Ted Smith who also emerged through the youth ranks at Roots Hall.

Smith has represented England at under-19 level and Blues’ youth team chief Ricky Duncan is also thrilled by the latest international call up.

“It’s another great thing for the academy that one of our players has got the call up,” said Duncan.

“Harry signed for us at under 12s or under 13s and he should be very proud to have been invited to the training camp.

“He’s a good young keeper who has a lot to learn but the potential is there and anything like this will be beneficial for him.”
