SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown remains in transfer talks with three strikers.

Brown is keen to bring Izale McLeod to the club from Crawley Town.

But Echosport can also reveal he is in discussions with former Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson and ex Yeovil Town front-man Joel Grant.

“I’ve kept the conversations going with regards to Izale McLeod but we’re also speaking to a couple of others,” said Brown.

“I’m talking to Simeon Jackson and Joel Grant and there are three or four out of contract who are looking to be re-engaged with a football club that we’re interested in them.

“We very nearly got one over the line on Friday for someone else who plays in a forward offensive role but I’m happy with our options at the moment as well.

“I thought Myles Weston showed on Saturday that he has an appetite to play up top and it’s any two from four up there now.”

Jackson, 28, is currently without a club after being released by Coventry City at the end of last season.

He had previously played for Rushden & Diamonds, Gillingham, Norwich City and Millwall, scoring a total of 110 career goals in 231 starts.

Grant, 27 is also looking for a club following his release from Yeovil Town.

The Jamaican international has also lined up for Watford, Aldershot, Crewe and Wycombe during his career and has scored 48 goals in 237 starts.
