MICHAEL Timlin wants to help Southend United right their weekend’s wrongs when they head to Doncaster Rovers tonight.

Blues were easily beaten 2-0 by Walsall at Roots Hall on Saturday.

And Timlin, who has surprisingly been on the bench for the Shrimpers’ first two league games of the season, now wants to ensure Phil Brown’s side are back to their best at the Keepmoat Stadium this evening.

“We want Saturday to be just a blip because the two performances before that had been really encouraging,” said the Blues midfielder.

“It was an uncharacteristic performance from us at the weekend and everyone knew it wasn’t good enough.

“We also knew the fans weren’t happy but we can’t afford to stay downbeat about it all.

“We need to focus on making sure we do much better against Doncaster and of course I want to be a part of that.”

Timlin played a huge part in the Shrimpers promotion from League Two last season and signed a new two year contract in the summer.

The midfielder is keen to keep on impressing this term.

And he has no qualms about having to start the season on the bench.

“The manager has got a quality squad together and there are no hard feelings from me about being a substitute,” said Timlin.

“If I’m honest I think the gaffer noticed that I was holding back a little bit in our pre-season friendlies.

“I’ve not had a proper pre-season for three years and my mindset in matches was not to get injured again.

“With that in mind, I wasn’t playing like I normally would because I want to be making a contribution all season, not just for a few months.

“I see this as a massive year for me but I’ve spoken to the manager about it and he always knew that as soon as league matches got going that I would be back to normal.”

Timlin hopes to be able to prove that against Doncaster this evening.

But he knows Blues will be in for another tricky test.

“Paul Dickov was an aggressive, hard working player and I’m sure his team reflect that,” said Timlin.

“We will have to make sure we apply ourselves properly if we are to get the result we know we’re capable of.”
