SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown labelled Daniel Bentley as one of the best goalkeepers in League One after the shot-stopper’s stunning display in last night’s 2-2 draw at Coventry City.

Bentley pulled off a string of fine saves, including one from a Jim O’Brien penalty in the second half.

And Brown was full of praise for the custodian who attracted a bid of £1.25million from Queens Park Rangers earlier on in the transfer window.

“Daniel Bentley is one the best goalkeepers in the division and he showed that again here,” said Brown.

“At the end of the game he was pointing to the number one on his shirt and the draw meant a lot to him.

“If anyone thinks he’s not playing for this football club following the uncertainty surrounding his future should just take a look at that performance.

“He was first class but we were hanging on in the second half and we shouldn’t have been.

“David Mooney and John White should have scored and we should have been 3-1 or 4-1 up at half-time.

“But in the end we were left fighting for a point.”

Noel Hunt and Mooney were both on target for the Shrimpers as they moved upto 20th in the League One table.

However, Blues have still yet to win in six outings so far this season.
