FORMER Walsall defender Anthony Gerrard is on trial at Southend United.

Gerrard, who is the cousin of former Liverpool star Steven, was released by Huddersfield Town at the end of last season.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown has confirmed the centre-back could well line up for the under 21s at MK Dons tomorrow night.

“Anthony is in training with us and there’s a good chance he could play in the under 21 game tomorrow night,” said Brown.

“Fingers crossed Adam Thompson will also be playing for the first time since his shoulder problem and we will be able to have a look at them both.”

Thompson has not played since dislocating his shoulder against Mansfield Town in early April and could even line up alongside Gerrard, who has also played for Accrington Stanley, Cardiff City and Hull in a career which has already seen him make 391 appearances.
