DAVE Robertson was delighted to start his spell in charge of Southend United’s under 21 team with a 2-0 win at MK Dons.
Goals from Nico Cotton and Jason Williams saw the Shrimpers come out on top.
And Robertson was thrilled to kick off his Roots Hall reign with a hard fought victory.
“I was really, really pleased with the performance and result,” said Robertons.
“There were lots of things that came good on the day and it gives us a strong foundation to build on and to progress because we have a lot of talent here.
“But one swallow doesn’t make a summer and the challenge to the group is to maintain and improve the standards consistently this season.”
