BLUES midfielder Michael Timlin could have broken a rib during Saturday’s 1-0 win against Port Vale.
The 30-year-old was forced off in the 70th minute at Roots Hall after picking up the injury.
And Southend boss Phil Brown is now waiting to discover the seriousness of the setback.
“We do fear that Michael has broken a rib,” said Brown.
“He took a real whack and it’s something we’re going to have to keep an eye on.”
However, Blues will definitely be without Gary Deegan for Saturday’s clash with Barnsley.
Deegan picked up his fifth booking of the season during the victory against Port Vale and will now serve a one match suspension.
