SOUTHEND United winger David Worrall has declared himself back to his best ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Blackpool at Roots Hall.

Worrall spent seven matches out of the starting line-up after experiencing a slight dip in form.

But, after impressing as a substitute in the FA Cup at Scunthorpe United, Worrall has started the last two matches.

And the 25-year-old is now keen to produce another good performance this weekend as Phil Brown’s side bid to end a run of four league games without a win.

“I was on the bench at the start of the season and then got back in the team before I had a bit of a blip if I’m honest,” said Worrall.

“But when I came on quite early at Scunthorpe the manager told me to take my chance and I would like to think that’s what I did.

“I haven’t looked back since then and I feel like I’m getting back to the way I was last season but I have to keep it going now.”

During his absence from the starting line-up, Worrall also found himself left out of the matchday squad for two games.

But the winger was able to bounce back thanks to the support of his team-mates who he now lives with.

“I would’ve found it all much tougher last season when I was living on my own,” said Worrall.

“However, I live with Ben Coker and Kevan Hurst now and Will Atkinson and Ryan Leonard are always round too.

“They’re good lads who have dragged me through because it’s been frustrating and really tough.

“People think footballers have it easy but it can be really hard when you’re not playing.

“I’m just glad I’m back in the team now.”

Worrall looks set to start for the 11th placed Shrimpers this weekend as they take on a Blackpool team sitting 21st in the table.

However, Worrall will not be taunting his close friend Jack Redshaw, who plays in attack for the Seasiders, in the build up to the game after that spectacularly backfired on the final day of last season.

“Last time I opened my mouth to Redshaw telling him not to score he did exactly that at Morecambe to put us in the play-offs,” said Worrall.

“This time I’ll be keeping quiet and I’ll just try to kick him instead.”
