SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has hit out at Oldham Athletic’s ticket strategy ahead of tonight’s clash at Boundary Park.

Shrimpers’ fans will be paying £22 to watch the game despite the home-side’s supporters being charged just £5.

And Brown is determined to repay Blues’ travelling contingent with all three points.

“I’m just astounded by the difference in ticket prices and I find it astonishing to be honest,” said Brown.

“I didn’t even realise it was allowed but hopefully our fans will make £22 worth of noise and theirs will only make £5 and we can give them plenty to shout about with a good performance and result.”

The Shrimpers’ chief executive Steve Kavanagh complained to the Football League about the difference in ticket prices.

However, no changes were made and Blues will now be looking for revenge on the pitch as they bid to build on Saturday’s 1-0 win against Blackpool.

“I was happy with the win at the weekend and it means we’re going to Oldham in good spirits now,” said Brown.

“I had a look back at the creativity side of things on Saturday and I don’t think it’s far off now.

“The movement, interplay and understanding in the last two or three games is better than it has been for a while and I think it’s to do with the system.

“We will need that again tonight and going to cold, blustery Boundary Park on a Tuesday night in November is certainly a real test of character.”

Blues head into the game sitting 10th in the League One table.

And Brown is keen to add to Oldham’s troubles at their own ground.

“The five defeats Oldham have had this season have all come at home,” said the 56-year-old.

“It suggests there’s a bit of pressure on them playing there but I know Boundary Park well as one of my best mates in the game Rick Holden was there.

“When I was at Halifax, if they were playing when we weren’t I would always go across and watch them in the good old days.

“I’m looking forward to going back but it’s still not an easy place to go to.

“We’ve done our homework and we’re expecting a stern test from them.”
