BLUES boss Phil Brown is unhappy to be without winger David Worrall for tomorrow’s clash with Wigan Athletic.

Worrall has been ruled out of the game by the Shrimpers’ medical staff after being knocked out when scoring against Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night.

But Brown believes it should be down to Worrall to decide whether or not he plays this weekend.

“I think it should be the player’s decision and if he feels well enough to play then he should be able to,” said the Blues boss.

“It’s an argument against the medical staff then but I do understand there is an ethical practise they have to adhere to.

“Ben Clarkson is doing his job and following the rules and regulations but I just know how hungry Dave is to play.

“However, if he can’t play he can’t play and I’ll not break that rule.”

Worrall was immediately brought off at Boundary Park after being hurt when heading home a deflected left wing cross from Kevan Hurst.

But the manner of the injury means Worrall must miss out against Wigan.

“There’s a five or six day compulsory day rest period because of the nature of the injury Dave had,” said Brown.

“He won’t be available which is disappointing but it gives somebody else an opportunity.

“There are lots of people putting their cases forward and if I was Stephen McLaughlin or Myles Weston I would be trying to declare myself fit if I could.”

However, Weston (Achilles) and McLaughlin (ankle) are both still rated doubtful while Noel Hunt (ankle) will also be missing.

But Michael Timlin is expected to passed fit after recovering from a bruised heel and he could well return in central midfield with Will Atkinson moving out wide to replace Worrall.
