JAMAR Loza insists he is coming back to Southend United better than he was before.

The speedy striker will spend the rest of the season on loan with the Shrimpers from Norwich City.

And Loza is eager to show how much he has improved since his first spell with Blues back in 2014.

“I’m a much better player now than I was when I was here before,” said Loza who scored once in seven games during his month long stint.”

“I’m more experienced now, I’ve had more games and other loan spells so I want to come here and show what I can do.

“Hopefully I can get a lot of games and a lot of goals during this spell and I can show how I’ve improved as well.”

Loza, whose loan switch is with a view to a permanent move, has already been training with Blues for the past fortnight.

And he jumped at the chance to be reunited with Phil Brown at Roots Hall despite interest from elsewhere.

“I definitely chose to come back here because of the manager and also because of the boys,” said Loza.

“I enjoyed my time here before and not much has really changed since then.

“I know a lot of the boys so it was an easy decision to make in the end.

“I’m buzzing to be back and I can’t wait to get started in training and in the games as well.

“I need to be playing first team football and hopefully I’ll get that here.”

Loza will now be pushing for a place in the Shrimpers’ squad for Tuesday’s trip to Shrewsbury Town.

And boss Brown is delighted to have brought the Jamaican international back to the club.

“I’m very pleased to bring Jamar in,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“We witnessed what he can do a couple of years back and we’ve been asking Norwich about him for a while because he has that pace I think we’ve been lacking.

“With six months left on his contract there they decided it was time for him to move on so we jumped at the chance to sign him.

“If he can get fit and get into the mentality of playing first team football again then I think he will be a threat at this level.”
