SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is desperate to banish the Shrimpers’ Glanford Park hoodoo tomorrow.

Blues have failed to win any of their previous 11 visits to Scunthorpe United’s stadium.

And Brown is keen for the wretched record to end this weekend.

“I know the club doesn’t have very happy memories at Scunthorpe and I certainly don’t either so we want that to change on Saturday,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“When we went there earlier on in the season I ended up getting sent to the stands due to my frustration more than anything else because I really wanted to have a good run in the FA Cup.

“We also gave away two bad goals which were exactly the same but we’re going back there in good shape and it’s time for us to go and end this hoodoo.”

Seventh placed Blues – who have not won away at Scunthorpe since 1983 - head into the game having triumphed in their last three outings.

And Brown is looking forward to locking horns with the Iron’s joint caretaker boss Andy Dawson who he managed while in charge of Hull City.

“I know Andy very well and since him and Nick Daws took control they’ve won both of their games,” said Brown.

“I have loads of time for Andy, he’s a great character and his was a story I knew would come to this kind of ending.

“He’s cutting his teeth at Scunthorpe and I really do wish him all the very best, just not on Saturday.

“But Andy knows my team will be fighting for everything and I know his will as well so I think it should be a good game.

“We know they’re a strong side and in Paddy Madden they have an excellent goalscorer so we will need to produce another strong performance.”

Scunthorpe head into the game sitting 13th in the table.
