SOUTHEND United’s Jack Payne made history at the Shrimpers Trust’s latest player of the year awards night.

The youngster, who looks set to leave Roots Hall this summer, became the first player to ever win all three awards on offer for the 2015/16 season.

He was delighted to pick up all of the prizes.

“I’m really proud and happy to have won the awards and would like to thank everyone who voted for me,” said Payne.

“Coming through the youth system here I know how much work the Shrimpers Trust does at the club so it means a lot to have been picked by them and their members for the awards.”

The attacking midfielder was awarded Shrimpers Trust player of the season, Junior Blues player of the season and the goal of the season prize for his individual effort against Sheffield United.

Popular defender Adam Barrett finished second in the player of the year vote while goalkeeper Daniel Bentley took third.

Ryan Leonard’s fine strike at Sheffield United came second in goal of the season with Michael Timlin’s long range effort at Barnsley finishing third.

But it was Payne’s effort against the Blades which proved to be the most popular as he picked up the prize which is dedicated to the memory of lifelong Southend supporter, Martin Cranmer, who was one of the founder members of the Southend United Independent Supporters Club.

Martin, who was also a Shrimpers Trust life member, passed away six years ago at the age of 40, and his widow Zoe was on hand to present the award again this year.

Elsewhere, Carmel Orford was named as the first recipient of the Shrimpers Trust Unsung Hero Award for her tireless commitment to the academy and work at Boots & Laces.

Ben Coker also received the PFA Community Champion Award, which was handed over by Blues Community & Educational Trust representative April Smith.
