A FURIOUS Phil Brown called for officials’ heads to roll following Southend United’s 3-2 defeat at Bury yesterday.

Ryan Lowe’s stoppage time penalty secured the Shakers all three points on the final day of the League One season at Gigg Lane.

But Brown was furious the spot kick was given and called for the assistant referee to never feature in professional football again.

“It’s an absolute disgrace,” said the Blues boss, whose side finished the season in 15th place.

“I’m not one for stopping people from working but that linesman needs to be struck off.

“If he ever officiates again I want to know why because that decision was a disaster.

“We didn’t deserve to lose and how these officials can sleep at night is beyond me.”

Brown has regularly criticised the officials this season and was also left incensed when Peterborough United were awarded a late penalty against Blues at London Road back in January.

But the Shrimpers chief has yet to be punished for his strong comments.

“At times this season I’ve called referee cheats and I haven’t been reprimanded,” said Brown.

“I haven’t been put in the stand or anything and I think it’s because they know how wrong it is. “The people in charge need to come out and talk about their recruitment because this is a disgrace to the travelling fans and the 22 players who gave their all.

“I tried to talk to them after the game but he had five or six bodyguards outside his door.

“It’s just absolute rubbish.”

The late penalty also resulted in Brown losing five games in succession for the first time in charge of the Shrimpers since his appointment in March 2013.

But he was more concerned at falling behind Bury in the table.

“Bury have gone above us now because of the penalty and that’s a disgrace because we’re a better team than them,” said Brown.

“We showed that here and we had numerous chances to win the game.

“The supporters can go home happy with the performance but our losing run should have been put to bed here and that hasn’t happened.”
