SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown will today hold talks with every single member of his squad as he starts to prepare for next season.

Brown will hold individual appraisals with all of Blues’ players.

And the Shrimpers chief will also be telling those who are out of contract whether or not they still have a future at Roots Hall.

“I like to have individual meetings with the players at the end of the every season and they will be taking place again today,” said Brown.

“I spoke to all of my staff yesterday and now it’s the turn of the players.

“It’s important to get their views and to also find out what they’re thinking for next season.

Goalkeeper Daniel Bentley and attacking midfielder Jack Payne are among those who are out of contract but both seem certain to leave the Shrimpers despite Brown’s best efforts.

The Blues boss also fears winger David Worrall, another out of contract player, could opt to turn down his offer of a contract amid interest from elsewhere.

However, wingers Myles Weston and Kevan Hurst have yet to discover whether or not they will be offered new deals.

Weston has endured an injury-hit season with the Shrimpers, making just eight starts while Hurst also struggled to hold down a regular slot.

The 30-year-old – who has been with Southend since 2012 – started just 11 times last term and will now be sweating on a new deal.

And Brown must also decide whether or not to trigger a clause in the contract of striker Noel Hunt which would see him stay with the club for a further season.

“I will be talking things through with the players in question but it would be wrong of me to reveal anything before I’ve spoken to them first,” said Brown.

“There is plenty to be discussed but it’s important it’s done properly.”

Brown must also decide whether or not to offer midfielder Franck Moussa, who scored for Blues at Bury on Sunday, a deal for next season.

And he will also be holding talks with Jamar Loza, Tyrone Barnett, Sam McQueen, Glen Kamara and Piotr Malarczyk who all ended the season on loan with the Shrimpers.

But one player who will definitely be leaving is centre-back Luke Prosser.

The defender left Blues to join Northampton Town on loan in January and will not be coming back to Roots Hall.

However, Brown refused to rule out defender Cian Bolger returning to the Shrimpers.

The centre-back played out the final two months of the season with Bury but Blues do still have the option to keep the Irishman for another year.

If the defender does stay then he will be joined by Gary Deegan due to a clause in his contract which will keep the midfielder at the club for the 2016/17 season.

Deegan made 27 appearances for the Shrimpers last season.
