SOUTHEND United are in talks with former Gillingham winger Jermaine McGlashan.

The 28-year-old – who has also played for Aldershot and Cheltenham – was released by the Gills at the end of last season.

But Blues boss Phil Brown is now keen on bringing him to Roots Hall.

“I’ve met with Jermaine and I’ve spoken to his agent as well, so hopefully we can get the deal sorted,” said Brown.

“Jermaine has been away on holiday but he’s back this week and we hope he will be putting pen on paper to join us.”

Brown is keen to bolster his wide options after deciding to release both Kevan Hurst and Myles Weston before David Worrall turned down the offer a new contract to join Millwall.

However, McGlashan could now be heading for the Shrimpers in a bid to kick-start his career.

The winger made 27 appearances for the Gills last season but was unable to find the back of the net.

But, during the 2014/15 season, he bagged seven goals for the Kent club having spent the previous two years with Cheltenham.
