SOUTHEND United have completed the signing of Jermaine McGlashan subject to a medical, Echosport understands.

The winger has signed a two-year deal with the Shrimpers.

And the 28-year-old will face his former Gillingham side in his first two games with his new club.

Blues kick off the League One season against the Gills at Roots Hall and will then also host the Kent club in the first round of the League Cup.

McGlashan - who has also played for Aldershot and Cheltenham Town - will be keen to prove a point against Gillingham after they decided to release him at the end of last season.

McGlashan will become Blues’ second signing of the summer after Echosport also revealed former Walsall right-back Jason Demetriou had signed a two-year deal, subject to a medical.

Shrimpers chief Phil Brown is also in talks with a centre-back who was playing in Italy last season.
