SOUTHEND United remain deep in contract talks with midfielder Franck Moussa.
The Belgian – who ended last season back at Roots Hall - is in discussions about a two-year deal with the Shrimpers.
But the situation has yet to be resolved less than a week before Blues are due back in for the start of pre-season training.
“We’ve made an offer to Franck and his agent has now come back with a counter offer,” confirmed a club spokesman.
“We’ve taken that on board and will be replying to it soon.”
Moussa came through the youth system at Blues and made more than 100 appearances for the club before deciding to leave in the summer of 2010.
But the 26-year-old returned to the Shrimpers in March and, scored at Bury on the final day of the League One season.
