JAMAL Campbell-Ryce could be heading back to Southend United, Echosport can reveal.

The 33-year-old winger, who had two separate spells with Blues a decade ago, is available on a free transfer after being released by Sheffield United.

And he is now held talks with Shrimpers boss Phil Brown about a possible return to Roots Hall.

“I’ve met with Jamal and held talks with him about his future,” said Blues.

“I know he will be well known to our supporters and he caught the eye against us last season.

“We had a talk about things and what he would like to do next.

“He has three or four other options and he’s certainly somebody we’re thinking about at this stage but we do have other wingers as well that we’re talking to.”

Campbell-Ryce made 16 appearances while on loan with Blues during the 2005/06 season before coming back to the club on a permanent basis at the start of the next season.

The winger made a further 53 appearances before joining Barnsley in August 2007.

Since then the former Jamaican international has lined up for Bristol City, Leyton Orient, Notts County and Chesterfield as well as Sheffield United and has made more than 460 appearances during his career.

Campbell-Ryce is now looking for another club and has attracted interest from Blues.
