SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has opened talks with another striking target.

Brown is keen to bolster his forward line before the start of the new season.

And he hopes to have done enough to land the well-known striker, who Echosport understands was lining up in the Championship last season.

“I’ve met a striker who has a decent profile and hopefully my sales pitch was good enough to him,” said Brown.

“He has three or four other clubs interested him as well but they’re quite northern so hopefully that could work in our favour.”

Brown currently has David Mooney and Jason Williams as his only recognised strikers in his squad, although Nile Ranger is pushing for a longer team deal at the club.
